Context
Waldami is the result of a collaboration that began in grad school. I teamed up with a classmate, Victor Badami, to create a game that encourages players to exercise basic pattern recognition skills. We strived to make the game as intuitive as possible, while also being accessible to a wide audience; age and culture don’t matter in this game. We believe it could be used to help promote cognitive development in young children, provide entertainment amongst friends and family, and exercise the minds of aging adults. While the game appears rather confusing at first, after the first couple of rounds, most players have a solid understanding of the rules.
The gameplay is similar to dominoes where participants play off each others' cards. Rather than looking for numerical patterns, however, the object of the game is to link cards that share certain graphical attributes. The rules are simple, but the gameplay is dynamic and players are challenged to employ elements of strategy to set themselves up for victory. We launched Waldami at the 2019 Essen Game Fair in Germany, where it received a positive and encouraging response from the international board game community. The name is a fusion of the last names of the creators: Walden + Badami = Waldami.
